Your Situation Is Unique

The Right Tooth Replacement Depends on More Than the Number of Missing Teeth

Two people with the same number of missing teeth may need completely different treatment plans. Jawbone volume, gum health, the condition of nearby teeth, bite alignment, healing ability, appearance goals, and whether a removable or fixed option is preferred can all affect the conversation.

At Monahan Dentistry and Implant Center, treatment planning begins with a comprehensive evaluation. When implants are being considered, 3D Cone Beam imaging can help the dentist evaluate the jawbone from multiple angles and plan implant length, diameter, and positioning.

The goal is not to push every patient toward the same procedure. It is to understand the full situation and discuss the options that fit the individual.

Dental Implant Options

Explore Solutions for One Tooth, Several Teeth, or a Full Smile

The survey does not determine which treatment is right for you. It helps identify the topics that may be most relevant to discuss during a professional evaluation.

Single-Tooth Dental Implant

A single implant can replace one missing tooth without requiring the neighboring healthy teeth to support a traditional bridge. The implant provides a foundation for a custom dental crown designed to look and function like a natural tooth.

  • One missing or non-restorable tooth
  • Natural-looking crown restoration
  • Stable chewing function
  • Preservation of neighboring tooth structure

Multiple-Tooth Replacement

Several missing teeth may sometimes be replaced with individual implants or an implant-supported bridge. The number and position of implants depend on the condition of the jawbone, surrounding teeth, bite, and treatment goals.

  • Several neighboring missing teeth
  • Implant-supported bridge options
  • Fixed versus removable solutions
  • Restoring bite function

All-on-X Full-Arch Treatment

All-on-X is a full-arch implant solution that uses a small number of strategically positioned implants to support a complete set of replacement teeth. Some patients may be candidates for a fixed, functional, and natural-looking full-arch restoration; timing and treatment stages vary.

Implant-Supported Denture Options

Some patients who currently use dentures may want to discuss whether implants could add stability or support. Depending on the situation, treatment may involve a removable implant-supported appliance or a fixed full-arch restoration. An evaluation determines which designs are appropriate.

Evaluation of Existing or Failed Implants

Pain, movement, gum inflammation, bone loss, or changes around an existing implant should be professionally evaluated. Dr. Monahan can review the implant, surrounding bone, bite, and restoration to determine which options may be available.

Preparing the Jaw for an Implant

Some patients need additional preparation before or during implant placement. These procedures can help rebuild or support areas where bone volume is insufficient — they are not required for every patient.

  • Bone grafting
  • Ridge augmentation
  • Sinus lift
  • Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) when appropriate

The Implant Process

A Carefully Planned Process From Evaluation to Final Restoration

  1. 1

    Survey & Initial Conversation

Complete the survey or call the practice to explain your situation and goals.

  2. 2

    Comprehensive Evaluation

The dentist evaluates teeth, gums, bite, medical considerations, and available jawbone. 3D Cone Beam imaging may be used.

  3. 3

    Personalized Treatment Plan

The team discusses appropriate options, stages, timeline, expected recovery, and financial considerations.

  4. 4

    Preparation & Implant Placement

Treatment may involve extraction, bone grafting, ridge augmentation, sinus lift, PRF, or implant placement. Not every patient needs every procedure.

  5. 5

    Healing & Integration

The implant is given time to integrate with the jawbone. Healing time varies according to procedure and individual health.

  6. 6

    Final Restoration

The final crown, bridge, denture, or full-arch restoration is placed and adjusted for appearance, comfort, and function.

The practice provides a general estimate of approximately five to six months for many single-implant cases. Additional healing time may be needed when an extraction, grafting procedure, or health concern affects the timeline. This estimate is not a guarantee.

"I appreciate that Dr. Monahan has been able to explain every step."

Important Things to Understand

  • Not everyone is immediately eligible for implant placement
  • A bone graft or other preparation may be needed
  • Treatment commonly requires several appointments
  • Healing may take several months
  • Surgery involves temporary swelling, soreness, bruising, or minor bleeding
  • Health conditions and tobacco use may affect healing
  • Treatment costs vary by number of teeth, restoration, anatomy, and additional procedures
  • No surgical procedure has a guaranteed outcome

The first step is understanding your individual situation — not selecting a treatment based only on an advertisement.
